FAQs

Will solar panels increase/decrease the value of my home?

If you purchase your solar, you will likely see an increase in your nominal property value, but you will not see a decrease in your property value. The generally rule of thumb to calculate savings is to take your annual savings and multiply it time 20.

If you choose the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)option, you will not see a decrease or an increase in your nominal property value.  In a PPA you do not own the panels so they do not contribute to the value of your home or business.

Will an electric solar system work in my home?

All you need for solar panels is a sunny place with roughly 360 square feet that is unobstructed by foliage or shading. Generally speaking, solar panels will work with the majority of roofing materials, as well.

How much electricity will my solar system save me?

Savings are directly correlated with the size of the system you choose. In addition, the amount of direct sunlight in your area, as well as the utility rates, will factor into your overall savings. We can help you determine the extent of your personal savings by assessing your home and current energy bills.

Will a solar system work with my utility power?

Yup. In fact, the system not only works with your utility power, but it will also automatically return unused power generated by the system back to your utility company for buy-back when you need it or credit to your account.

What about when it is cloudy or night - will the solar panels work, then?

Solar electricity requires sunlight; therefore, overcast days will result in lower energy output than clear days with intense sunlight. You will still produce energy, but it will be less than what is produced on ideal, high sunlight days.

How durable are solar systems?

Incredibly durable - in fact, all engineered plans are designed to withstand winds of 125 mph, 1-inch hail, and meet UL standards through individual panel testing. You are all good on the durability front.

How long does it take before my system is fully functional and ready to use?

Once you have signed an agreement to move forward, your system will likely be in full operation in 6-8 weeks. This includes an initial site assessment, detailed engineered plans approved by you, permitting with your city, the physical installation of the system, and the permission to operate with your existing utility provider. The other factor to consider are ground mounts, or roofing upgrades, as well as sometime HOA permissions could cause a delay in completion.

What happens when the power goes out?

Without a battery back-up, the system will shut-down (state law requirement), but will be up and running as soon as the power is back.  When you have a battery back-up system installed your system will switch over to battery power and supply those critical loads you chose during the design process. During the following day, your system will continue to both provide power to your home, but also recharge your battery in the event of an extended power outage.

I am super excited to use my solar energy hot water - anything I should know about it?

Well, yeah - it is a different technology than the solar electricity. Solar hot water actually utilized the heat from the sun opposed to the light, and is incredibly efficient. We are happy to help you set this type of alternative energy, too!
